Violence is becoming more and more common among schools across this nation- we have seen the news spills, but very few people know of things that have been covered up and haven’t made it to the news. Violence in schools- truth be told, is covered up often by school officials especially in universities… Why? Business. That’s why. In a previous post I commented on this circumstance- Business seems to be the problem with almost everything- If it gets out on the news that a teacher was murdered, or a student was violently killed in a school- what will happen? The potential students parents won’t let them go- as the most common tuition payers, also few students, if they pay their own tuition would like to go to a school in which students have been killed, or violent crimes have been committed. This violence is becoming much worse as the years pass, and aggression is becoming more aggressive. As a student I have witnessed a variety of violent students- whom in my mind are disgusting. They treat professor’s with little respect, cuss in class, curse at the teachers, scream, throw things around, etc. These are students whom have made it to about eighteen or so years old, without learning any differently. I am personal advocate of discipline in children, and this is one of many reasons why- eventually every child is confronted with things that they will disagree with- but must deal with in order to get ahead in life- there will always be one person you have to give up and pretend to get along with, as adults we all realize this. As a child we don’t understand this- and don’t want to accept such a future- but it is true. When a child isn’t disciplined or told “no” an acceptable amount of times- it leads to a child expecting to get everything they want, and to use the same tactics they used on their parents, as screaming or throwing fits, etc, until they receive whatever they wanted. This aspect becomes a part of their psyche, and they continue these tantrums after they have become adults, and creates problems in education and careers. A variety of students are confronted in classrooms with a form of authority, teacher or professor, which many students dislike, and if they already have this disciplinary problem, the moment they are told no, it is impossible to decipher how the child will react, and some react in violent mannerism’s, even something as violent as killing a teacher or classmates- this is vital to understand, when raising a kid, and when being a student or/ teacher. Aggression is becoming worse, as discipline is becoming scarce. Video games are also something I would like to discuss- many people become angry when video games and aggression are compared to one another- I believe they have influence to a certain extent- many people aren’t effected by video game influence but some are- and it is difficult for them to detach violence in video games versus. reality. It is also extremely descencitizing to violence- it causes violent acts to seem less violent- and more common. All things to take into account when raising a child- and studying the immense increase in violence.
Obesity and Poverty
Obesity- the first thing everyone thinks is McDonald’s and people whom are overweight and unhealthy. These people are constantly under harassment of every form. What is the truth of obesity, the truth is that obesity and hunger go hand in hand. How you ask? People whom have low incomes like those affected in the Mississippi Delta, and any city “off the beaten path.” These places are absorbed with mom and pop shops which don’t have enough money for anyone to care about delivering them and perishable goods. What’s the name of the game? Maximizing profits, minimizing travel costs. How much do you think it would cost to travel to some store off the beaten path- a lot more than any small shop there would be able to pay. Walmart? You got it. High volume, it’s worth it to the company transporting their goods to drop them off at these super centers. This leaves all of the citizens in these “off the beaten path areas” to what is the only thing the companies will bother to deliver to them; non-perishable goods. Yum yum- unhealthy galore, want some chips? soda? sweets? We got it. Anything else? Sorry it costs way to much to do that! Fruit and veggies 5 bucks for 300 calories, non-perishable “goods” five dollars will get you 1000+ calories. If you are on food stamps, if you don’t make the big-ol’ hunk of money every two weeks, what are you going to get? Exactly. These citizens are left in the dry, food stamps? Three dollars a day would get you what at the grocery store? Absolutely no where, no one can live on that kind of budget. This is the truth of the government subsidies put in place. Your health is not what is on their “political agenda.” The big company farms that make wheat, and corn syrup, that’s in absolutely everything. Walmart is what matters, the maximized profit is what matters. Oh, your kid doesn’t eat good in school? We’ll give them an extra six cents a lunch- the honest, recent reform that was given to your children. Where did this money come from? Guess what it came straight out from food stamps! Oh, and hey by the way? Where does six cents get you, after labor, and electricity, and everything else the school needs for their cafeteria is taken out of it? Nothing. These children are being undernourished, leaving them for failure. The under-development of children has gone up. These leave these children with motor skill complications, language, education, everything, is right out of the door. The problems are continued to be intertwined with one another, mothers are depressed they can’t feed their children, food stamps leaves them little help, a $9/hour job is an over-qualification for food stamps. These parents are left to feed there children unhealthy foods high in carbohydrates, and fat. What does this lead the population to be- obese. How often do these families spend days without food? Days, hours, meals, are constantly skipped. Many times families in Colorado and Philadelphia are pained with empty stomachs. The carbs they consumed from yesterday have no where to go. Obesity and hunger/poverty, are hand and hand. When you hear hunger- you think Africa. Not home. Your neighbor goes hungry, your peers go hungry, they are undernourished, they are eating awfully, many times against their will. They need help. This country needs help. FEED AMERICA!
Cyber-Bullying
What is this “lovely” new word? This is the new age of bullying. I hope that everyone understands what bullying is- It has been personified on a variety of shows and movies. The kid getting pushed into the locker, someone getting a swirly, the kid being called a nerd. This used to be the realistic events that people would deal with when they were bullied, and took these actions very harshly. This whole entire idea has become reinvented, and very few parents realize this. The technology age brought a variety of great things like the access of worldwide knowledge, and easy communication but many responsibilities came with it. The sad thing that occurred, though some people knew this is when the human race is given responsibilities rarely are they never abused. Cyber bullying is the abuse of such technology. There have been news coverage’s in probably every city across the U.S of a high school student whom has taken their life due to this harassment called cyber bullying. This is the new effect of bullying on your children, on your children’s peers, or your peers. These are people who use social networks to brutally harass other people. Facebook, Ask.fm, etc. These bullies have become violent detached citizen of America. They message their peers and harass them with messages telling them to drink bleach, or kill themselves, or messages concerning how no one loves them, and everyone wishes they were dead. The bullying has become mental abuse, rather than physical violence. Physical violence was easier to spot, with fights, and bruises. This mental abuse is a very silent way of effecting someone. If the bullied doesn’t speak up no one may ever know- that is until they take their lives. I want people to be aware of how high scale this is- there are at least a hundred students in every high school or middle school involved with this “cyber bullying.” There are students in almost every high school whom have taken their own lives. The number are increasing, and i’m glad that now in Florida, it is a third degree felony to bully, it IS harassment. Please, if you are a parent be aware of your child’s Facebook, and their ability to hide posts from you if you are there friend, the audacity of some children, and even the ability of your child to participate in such acts. The numbers are going- and this is a tragedy that must be known! BE AWARE!!!!
Depression
Almost everyone that will access this blog knows someone with depression, or you yourself suffers from depression. Depression appears to be taking over the world, or at least America. The numbers are increasing, the cases are more serious, and the ages of disorder targets are getting younger and younger. The suicide rates are increasing, along with the shrinking of age of those affected. There have been nine year old’s among the youngest of media aware cases. How is this happening? How does it go without being discussed? Why is the best nation in the world so depressed? The most important question is, how young are the cases, the media doesn’t show? How many cases are there truly out there? The increase of depression almost goes hand in hang with media, social media’s in specific, at least among young teenage citizens. The center for disease control, shows an increase of over 28% percent from 1999-2010. This is insane, but somehow has managed to go unnoticed by so many of those who actually control the country. It has even gone unnoticed by the people whom are friends with those effected by depression, and suicide. Everything seems to be a disaster in this country, at this point in time. In my education it is scary how many things connect themselves, and how many things are truly going wrong. According to the Nuffield foundation, young people in the 21st century are twice as likely to experience the divorce of their parents, from people thirty years ago. The cost of college education has gone up, along with the numbers of students who dropped out of high school. Teachers, have been harder to find, educators have become poor, their number of problems to address has increased, their pay has decreased. The market has crashed, many high school students wont find work, due to the increase of the necessity for the retired to return to work. How many things are really wrong? How many of this is connected? All of the questions the citizens of America need to ask themselves, if everything is so perfect? Why is everything so bad? In an article by everydayhealth.com they recognize that for every two homicides, there are three suicides. Hope I have began to open your eyes, and I hope that many more citizens of this nation will follow. The truth begins…
